Made with the same attention to detail and durability as the gambesons, these cuisses are designed to accept whatever stiffener you choose. The channels are left open at the top for easy removal of stiffeners to facilitate the occasional washing. I prefer garden hose, but plastic, foam or aluminum have been used. An ensolite pad is built into the knee area, there is a layer of denim on the outside, two layers of canvas within. All the seams are stitched upholstery thread.
